Counting Down To Our Day
Our Story
How It All Began

The Short Version (For the Normal People)
In the modern age of technology, we entrusted our fate to a screen and an algorithm.
On October 1, 2024, Bryan liked one of Sydney's photos on Hinge. A few messages later, the conversation moved to text. Six days after that first like, we met in person.
Our first date was October 7 in Provo.
Dinner at Thai Hut turned into pumpkin and brown butter gelato at Vinci, which turned into a 2.78-mile walk through Joaquin and Memorial Park. We talked about faith, family, marching band stories in Washington, D.C., General Conference highlights, and everything in between.
By the time we made it back to Sydney's car, neither of us was in a hurry to leave.
What started as a simple dinner became the beginning of something lasting.
Phase 1: Initial Engagement
Tuesday, October 1, 2024 – 3:10 p.m.
Bryan liked one of Sydney's photos on Hinge.
11:05 p.m.
Bryan sent the first message.
Wednesday, October 2 – 9:43 a.m.
Sydney responded.
We exchanged 6 messages on Hinge before transitioning to text on Wednesday, October 2.
Between October 2 and October 7, we exchanged approximately 47 text messages — enough to build interest, confirm compatibility, and schedule a date without over-engineering it.
Time from first like to first date: 6 days.
Phase 2: First Date — October 7, 2024
Dinner: Thai Hut – Provo, UT
7:36 p.m. – 8:27 p.m. (50-minute service window)
- Bryan ordered pineapple curry (10/10, still recommends)
- Sydney most likely ordered a noodle dish (exact item unconfirmed, but confidence remains high)
Total: $33.49
Efficient service. Strong start. Solid investment.
Before the night ended, Sydney suggested a short walk to gelato.
Phase 3: Gelato & Expansion
Walk to Vinci Authentic Gelato: 0.3 miles (8:27 p.m. – 8:33 p.m.)
Gelato Total: $11.38
- Bryan: Seasonal pumpkin
- Sydney: Brown butter (a choice that quietly reinforced long-term compatibility indicators)
At this point, Sydney had just completed her third consecutive 12-hour shift and was running on fumes — slightly tired, slightly loopy, fully herself. Bryan appreciated the unfiltered authenticity. No performance. No polish. Just real conversation.
Phase 4: The 2.78-Mile Conversation
- Joaquin neighborhood around 8:52 p.m.
- Toward Memorial Park between 9:29 p.m. and 9:38 p.m.
- Total walking distance: 2.78 miles
Topics included:
- Faith and General Conference (held days prior)
- Family
- Life goals
- Sydney's high school marching band experience, including performing in the Washington, D.C. parade
Return to Sydney's car near Thai Hut: 10:10 p.m.
No rush. No awkward ending. Just momentum.
Competitive Landscape Snapshot
- Sydney: 6 dates within the 10 days prior (Bryan = #7)
- Bryan: 3 dates within 21 days (second date involving Thai Hut — proven venue confidence)
Financial Summary
Dinner: $33.49
Gelato: $11.38
Total Capital Deployed: $44.87
Outcome: Exclusive relationship
Long-Term ROI: Infinite
What began as a well-timed like at 3:10 p.m. turned into a 2.78-mile walk and a lifetime decision.
Turns out the algorithm did its job.
